See Xiu Xiu and Donate to a Great Cause

When Xiu Xiu return from the UK, they’ll head out on their US tour. On the road, the band will be fundraising for At The Crossroads, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that helps street youth through counseling, outreach, and other services.

The band is asking for donations of any amount, and certain amounts of donation will come with specific prizes.

$1 (show only): Everyone who donates a dollar or more at the show will get together at the end of the show for a big group picture. The band will then post these pictures online.

$5: The band will mail you a postcard, probably made by Xiu Xiu, sent while on the road.

$10: Xiu Xiu will email one of a kind picture of the band on the road + description of what's going on before and after, not during.

$30: The band will mail you any random thing bought at a gas station, thrift store, or anywhere! from the road

$50: The band will mail you a special David Horvitz collection of Xiu Xiu photos.

If a collective total of $5000 of donations is reached, Xiu Xiu will release a never before released song, a collaboration with Mary Pearson (High Places), for free to download.

Please note: Everything but the group pictures will be offered online and at the show.

At the end of fundraising, the band will read out the names of everyone who donated on camera and will put the video online.

Starting today, online magazine Tiny Mix Tapes (http://tinymixtapes.com) is selling a CD/LP benefit compilation exclusively through its website (http://www.tinymixtapes.com/FOR-SALE-Tiny-Mix-Tapes-Vol-1). Titled Tiny Mix Tapes Vol. 1: Darfur, the 11-track compilation features *exclusive* tracks either recorded specifically for the comp and/or have not been released elsewhere. 100% of the profits will be donated to the International Rescue Committee (http://www.theirc.org), an "independent, impartial, and secular aid organization," who are currently aiding Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad, southern Sudan, and the Central African Republic.

The LP version comes on heavyweight vinyl, housed in a beautiful jacket designed by artist Keith Kawaii (http://keithkawaii.com), while the unique CD jacket was lovingly crafted by Stumptown Printers (http://stumptownprinters.com), an environmentally responsible Portland-based print shop. XIU XIU In Portland

Wow, Xiu Xiu played an amazing show in Portland a couple of days ago at the Backspace....too bad there were too many people, and not a very high stage, or I might have a picture for you. I wish I had taken a photo instead of the crazy dancers in the back...so much fun to watch since I couldn't see the band. I will just say I went with a friend who had never seen them, and he was blown away. Go check them out while you can, they are touring maniacs !!!

JAPAN

Portia and I just got back from Japan where we had the best time ever! P-Vine (our exclusive label partner over there) put on a Kill Rock Stars showcase in Tokyo with Deerhoof, Xiu Xiu, Mika Miko, and Panther. All the bands played amazing sets and the crowd seemed so excited. We all had a few days off in Tokyo and it was a blast to hang out and wander around. We went to Harajuku and saw the crazy rockabilly dancers: and went to a Bangladesh festival, wandered around so many amazing Blade Runner type alleys, ate amazing food (ume rice balls were my favorite), and got to meet some of the nicest and most generous people around. Thanks so much to Koki, Hiro, Aya, Hama, Masa, Kana, Monica, etc for treating us and our bands so well. I really felt like the luckiest person in the world to be working with so many great people. Oh and here's another weird thing - it seems Caralee and I are twins and never noticed it. Here's the proof:

Weird right? It's our German and Scottish blood I guess.
