i couldn't have put it better myself...

from the s-s records website's front page...

The hacking of Sarah Palin's email made me think of how behind the Republican candidates are on this internet thing. Here you have a vice president candidate who carries on public business on a private email account so that she can do it all in secret; but lacks the knowledge or insight into the fact that by doing so she opens herself up to an easy hack. Forget that the national security implications for a minute, what does she have to arm herself against bad advice regarding the internet, from lobbyists and staff? If she cant get her own personal security together and is willing to place Alaska's privacy in the hands of Yahoo, how is she going to be effective on these issues on a national basis?

Even worse, McCain can't operate a fucking computer. He has never surfed the net. He has never done online banking or paid a bill on line. Other than from a lobbyist I bet he has no idea what paypal does. Given that the internet carries a substantial amount of US commerce and that it is almost impossible to do business without it, don't you think the president should have a working knowledge of it? Should he or she at least be able to receive and send email? Really, the internet has pretty much changed the way we communicate, do business, make music, wack off, so many different things. Only the television and the automobile are the two consumer used inventions that have had such an impact. For someone not to have a working familiarity with the internet in 2008 is like a person never having driven in a car in 1940 or watched TV in 1970. Fine if that is your personal choice but what fool would elect a president ignorant about automobiles and TVs when they had become commonalities in every day life? ---S.S.

ridiculous things you do and find hilarious while bored on tour

music related pet peeves list version 1.

1. when there are 6 band bills and i only want to see 2 of the bands, but the person putting on the show won't say what order the bands are playing in until the show has started. "they're all good, mannnn...."
sorry, i've got a lot going on, i don't want to wait through 3 hours of bands i don't like. in face, i'd put shows with more than 3 bands on this list unless i am stoked about all of them.
2. myspace band pictures where it's a photo booth pic w/ a picture of each band member. it's just been done too many times.
3. really boring music videos.

i'll add more to this soon. feel free to post your own in the comments.

XIU XIU In Portland

Wow, Xiu Xiu played an amazing show in Portland a couple of days ago at the Backspace....too bad there were too many people, and not a very high stage, or I might have a picture for you. I wish I had taken a photo instead of the crazy dancers in the back...so much fun to watch since I couldn't see the band. I will just say I went with a friend who had never seen them, and he was blown away. Go check them out while you can, they are touring maniacs !!!

Whoa, the wayback machine

Want to remember what the KRS web site looked like April 1 2001?

More fun, here

marnie stern "ruler"

lauren and i agree that this is tied for album of the year, except she is tying it with a song by "the dream" and i'm tying it w/ "a milli" by weezy. it's all good, though!
check it out on her myspace.

it's new release day!

if you're headed to the record store, pick up these...

horse feathers "house with no home"

shaky hands "lunglight"

or you can just get them from our mailorder dept...

if you're going the mailorder route, tobi got some distributed items in that i'd like to recommend... one is this band (well actually it's one woman) called us girls, that i saw last night at valentines. it's kind of crazy distorted beats w/ some weird vocals. pretty fun stuff. covers of bruce springstein, dave clark 5 and some originals too... another is the mars discography cd. it seems like this gets reissued every few years. i've seen pressings from atavastic, important records, etc. but there is a reason for it- it's really good. easily my favorite of all those no wave bands... also the extreme animals cd looks cool. i haven't heard it yet, but i have one of their records and listen to it quite a bit...

best of 2008?

i got my first email asking me to vote for my favorite albums of 2008 today... seems kind of early... then i checked and i didn't like any of the albums that they were asking me to vote on except lil wayne "carter III" which wasn't even in the best album category, it was in the "best rap album" category... kind of crazy....
