BEST SIGN EVER

i wonder if the pizza is good, though... hopefully.

Books

It's been raining off and on for the past week, making me feel like summer is gonna be all too brief this year. This leads me to thinking about the impending hibernation stage of living in the NW (ie the late fall + winter) and what i will do with all that indoor time. I have started up my collection of books to be read when the rains really come and in that stack is Adam Gnade's new book Hymn California. It was published by Dutchmoney (who also designed our nifty little web site). It's really beautiful and you can listen to little snippets from it here

Oh wow

Here's another video by Jennifer Clavin for Wild Bore:

amps for christ

what a band... i love this stuff

Jennifer Clavin directs too!

The Planet The reunion?

Make it happen buddy guys...

Hot Snakes!

I loved this band so much. so much. Years ago, back when I was in Bangs, our booking agent Chad Q called us up and asked if we would open for John Reis' new band in SF and LA. Well we were also big RFTC fans so we jumped at the chance. I walked into the Bottom of the Hill just as they started sound checking and loved it.

The best part is they treated us so well and we had so much fun playing with them. They took us out for sushi the following night in LA (where I first had edamame + tako salad) and got us shots at the end of the night after the show. That is what I miss most about tour. Playing with rad bands that you haven't seen before and they end up being really nice people. There is a special sort of camaraderie that happens when bands are touring together. It can feel like it's you guys against the world or something. It's a strange sort of feeling.

Okay now I am totally nostalgic for touring. Argh...

Punkss, Caldonias, Explode Into Colors Live in PDX

i think this show is happening tonight but maybe it happened last night?

Explode Into Colors

I CAN'T FEEL MY FACE

yo, so punkss are playing tonight in portland, but since chavez is in seattle we're actually playing as I CAN'T FEEL MY FACE.
it's like a cross between the punkss and lil wayne.
ps it is at valentines
pps we are playing w/ explodeintocolors who are hands down one of the best bands in portland. i guess that means different things to different people, since a lot of people think every band here is good... i wouldn't exactly agree, but i will say that this is a REAL COMPLIMENT and i MEAN IT.

Grandmas are the best!

Video for Cruising off of Erase Errata's Nightlife album. Directed by Kate Hall (you might have seen her playing drums in Mika Miko) and starring her very own grandma. I love the bathing suit and guitar plus she's totally playing and she does that awesome G chord with the thumb over the top:

So bummed I missed Ingrid's b-day: bowling and karaoke!! I just got back from a whirlwind trip to SF to hang out with Deerhoof and the awesome Bruno Ybarra (our iTunes dude). Sadly though somehow I got the first sunburn I have had in years! Who knew that the cold SF sun would be so brutal. Basically 1/2 of my body looks like this:

KRS Bowling Party...

Last night a bunhc of us went bowling in celebration on my birthday....I have to say, I never knew what great bowlers Slim and Portia were, and I finally found my groove in the 3rd game, and broke 100. Ben won the only game he played, but Josh helped him out a little when Ben had to leave early. Here are some pics...Slim , after yet another strike, Portia and Ben, and the score boards .

i'm just feeling negative today. too many people seem to think you have to like everything these days and are trying to be myspace friends... fuck that. one day i want to make a website where people confirm that they don't like each other. it seems like then you wouldn't have these awkward moments where you have to say hi to people that you've known for 10 years even though you aren't friends...

xiu xiu dates. "hi, you look like a kissable frog and a like a thick fog. please come on a date with me!"

does selling out exist anymore?

it seems like most people seem to think the answer is "NO!"
i kind of disagree... i mean, it doesn't exist if you don't stand for something in the first place, but if you do, yeah, right?
it seems like before baby bush was president people would be freaking out about nike sponsoring the boredom's 88 drummer event, but now it seems like that kind of stuff doesn't even get mentioned. i mean, it's cool that they are having a bunch of my favorite drummers drum with one of the bands that completely changed the way i listen to music and think about art (boredoms when my bro played me their song on a krs comp when i was in 5th grade), but still- shouldn't they spend that money on paying those kids making the shoes in a sweat shop a living wage?
i'm not saying all my homies drumming in this event are bad, or anything, shit- one of my best friends of all time and bandmate marianne of the punks drummed in it last year and i would drum with the boredoms in an instant, but still... seems weird that nobody seems to think twice about corporate sponsorship in what seems like it should be a diy event...
sorry if this isn't well written/thought out, i'm drinking a microbrews on the porch with my neighbors!

anyhow, what do you think? does diy exist still? what about the idea of selling out? let's start a dialog, please! i love to have this type of conversation but nobody seems to want to have it with me anymore. maybe i should go back in time to the 90's or something?
