so close to my house and the krs portland office, but i still haven't ate here! the review on portland hamburgers seems positive enough!
this week i will eat here...

did manage to eat at francis on alberta yesterday...

fucking delicious! i got the biscuits and sausage gravy. they give you 2 biscuits for $5 and they are huge. i had to take one home because it was so much... also got the hash brown potatoes. it was one big fried potato, but it seemed like it had some sort of cream inside? i guess i should get a digital camera to take photos of food... pretty good!

my friends skuffz, jesse, and florence came over and we made pancakes (w/ bananas instead of eggs), blackberry compote, fried potatoes w/ rosemary, garlic, and cheese, and sage pork sausage. delicious times!
also coffee, orange juice, and lemon ginger echinacea juice!

Sadly to say...I never got any pics of Jeff Hanson, New Bloods, or tons of others I saw!
Jeff Hanson was great at the KRS showcase.... no pics because I was still trying to get a guest list squeezed out of the sxsw ( thanks James, and Shawn ! SERIOUSLY for helping out !!! ).
New Bloods sounded as good as ever, so good that I am looking for their next local show I can hit up !
Highlights were also High Places,Shunda K from Yo Majesty, Pig Out, Tristan Perich ( insane noise ), Juice Box when he fell through the roof at Ms Bea's then then promised to pay for the damage , and White Williams was intriguing, as ever.

ok, so for some reason the pictures I took of Islands turned out rad!....I think it was the stage lights at Waterloo Park. I had the pleasure of listening to a bunch of new and old songs, and the crowds always went crazy when Subtitle came out to rap!.............Breeders sounded sooooo good! Blitzen Trapper are good friends, and though I only saw them once, we had some good times hanging out watching White Denim, at the Mohawk! ahhhhhhh, free beer!

if i have to see these guys on one more magazine or website i'm goign to scream... not because of their music (which i'm assuming is boring but haven't heard and am hoping to keep that way) but because they look scary.

SXSW

Okay, so I am barely awake over here after 6 days in austin but I feel like I should report! First off the biggest highlight of the trip, as always, were the breakfast tacos! This year we stayed at the Radisson and so we were only 2 blocks from deliciousness. I was fortunate to eat at Las Manitas at least once per day! I highly recommend the soy chorizo tacos. yumski!

Other highlights: the weather (it was totally summertime in portland style weather down there, beautiful!), margaritas, the bands (ours of course: panther, new bloods, mika miko, telepathe, jeff hanson, shy child and others: eat skull, roky erickson, darondo, high places, blood on the wall, yacht, naked on the vague, etc etc etc), doing the austin chronicle crossword puzzle everyday, my yearly chat on the street with thurston, lounging by the pool, seeing old friends, making new ones, and hanging out with the amazing people I work with.

that's cool that they're remembering to dye their beards and all, but they SHOULD be remembering to use some sun block...

stoked for lost tonight

it seems like they are on such a roll this season, pretty much EVERY EPISODE has been great (the kate flash forward was kind of annoying.)
i think one of my favorite parts of this season is that hurley and sawyer are roommates and share a cabin together. there is so much potential for a sitcom spin off here! esp. with the scene where they were playing horseshoes...

i've only heard the erase errata and inca ore/axolotol split 7"s but they were both pretty killer! the erase errata one has a captain beefheart cover (ooh boy!) and the inca ore/axolotol one has some droned out/stoned vibe going on that's pretty nice...
i think silver daggers has a member of mika miko in it? maybe i'm wrong... sometimes you need a score card to keep track of who is in what band, you know?

the plug awards - WHO FUCKING CARES

do we really need something like this in the world? i've gotten like 5 emails about the plug awards today and the "underground coming together to honor their own..."
if the plug awards are the underground, i'll gladly join the mainsteam. i'd rather listen to lil wayne and justin timberlake than spoon and arcade band of horse fire any day... those fucking bands can go hang out with phil collins at the soft rock radio station showcase... really...
it seems like their whole idea of undergroud is giving nominations to bands that sell lots of records, it's insane.
shit, there was only one catagory where i actually liked two bands (marnie stern and magik markers for punk- which is weird, i'd say that marnie is more prog/experimental than punk, right? same w/ magik markers)

i should probably chill the fuck out and worry about something more important than the indie rock grammys....
