Vinyl Mastering / Timing Guidelines

I found this interesting since I do production...it is the time guidelines for vinyl mastering ( this is just one mastering house's perspective )...

Timing Guidelines:

Speed: 33 1/3 rpm

12” Single
10:00-12:00 = Great
12:00-14:00 = Good

12” LP
15:00-18:00 = Great
18:00-20:00 = Very Good
20:00-22:00 = Good
22:00-24:00 = Fair
Above 24:00 = If you insist.

7”
They don’t sound good but I’ll do it.
0:00-7:00 min

Speed: 45 rpm

12” Single
6:00-8:00 = Great
8:00-10:00 = Good

12” LP
12:00-15:00 = Great
15:00-18:00 = Good

7”
3:00-3:30 = Great
3:30-4:00 = Good
4:00-4:30 = Fair
4:30 & up = I’d rather cut it low at 45 than at 33 1/3.

Why would there be a difference between a 12" single and a 12" lp? Is there a gram difference in the vinyl used?

Still, it's clear that God prefers records to be shorter than those bongathon jams Benny P listens to. And I agree. Good work, God. Thanks for making the laws of physics so that they coincide w/ my listening enjoyment.

12" singles are usually at 45 rpm for the big booty bass.... hex enduction hour has 30 minutes on each side and that isn't really a bongathon jam!
